Harvest donation press release
Wed 11 Oct 2017PRESS RELEASE - Oct 2017
LOCAL SCHOOL MAKES HARVEST DONATION
Oak Tree Primary School has worked in partnership with both Oak Tree Tesco and Sherwood Forest Food bank to make a valuable contribution to a local good cause.
School held a celebratory Harvest Festival on 29th Sept for the children and their families. Children brought food items into school to donate as part of their celebrations. School wanted this donation to go to a local good cause.
Tesco works in partnership with the Sherwood Forest Food Bank which supports families in need, in the Mansfield area. Food items are collected in store from customers, which the Food Bank then uses to create food packs for families in need.
Building on links to Sherwood Forest Food Bank and Oak Tree Tesco, Oak Tree Primary School pupils, supported by the Head, delivered the donation to the Tesco store where staff were on hand to thank them.
Kate and Malcolm Miller, members of Sherwood Forest Food Bank were also there to collect the donation and take it to the Food bank.
Oak Tree Primary School Head, Mark Thrower said
“We wanted to give our Harvest Celebration Festival a real local theme. We already have connections with both the Food Bank and Tesco, so making this donation seemed an ideal solution.
For our children to meet local representatives of both organisations raises their awareness of the impact their donations will make.
We hope it is of benefit to Sherwood Forest Food Bank.”

King George V park visit
Mon 26 Jun 2017PRESS RELEASE - June 2017
LOCAL SCHOOL SUPPORTS CLEAN UP MANSFIELD DAY
Oak Tree Primary School recently supported Mansfield District Council’s Clean Up Mansfield Day.
Year 5 pupils visited King George V Park to take part in a range of activities finding out more about the Park and doing their bit to clean the area up.
Andy Chambers, Park Development Officer supported the group by helping devise an orienteering type activity for the children to find their way around the Park and Neighbourhood Wardens helped organize the litter pick. The children had a picnic lunch, a game of rounder’s and then looked around the Park again to identify the types of trees growing there.
Oak Tree Primary School Head Mark Thrower said
“We want to provide our children with chances to find out about their local environment and how their behavior impacts on that. We hope by getting involved in the Clean Up initiative we will help them grow up to respect the local area and not drop litter.
To be able to link it to visit a Park where we could learn about map reading and orienteering made it even more worthwhile.”
