Family Welfare Officer and Designated Safe Guarding Lead

 

Salary: Range Hay Band A, Points 23 to 28 £32,076 to £36,648 pro rata NB this is based on a year round 37 hours per week salary. Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

 

Contract: Temp maternity leave cover up to Summer term 2025

 

Working Pattern: Negotiable based on 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday.

 

Location: Oak Tree Primary School and Nursery, Jubilee Way North, Oak Tree Lane Estate, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG18 3PJ

Job profile:

 

Oak Tree Primary School and Nursery is looking to recruit a compassionate, dedicated and experienced Family Welfare Officer, who will also act as the deputy designated safe guarding lead, to cover a maternity leave.

This is a unique and varied opportunity as the role will be based in a primary setting and will cross different areas of responsibility. Primarily, we are looking for someone to assist in addressing the social well-being of our students alongside current and relevant issues in the school.

As an advisor to our senior leadership team, the role includes but is not limited to: providing support for children and families; liaison with external agencies and working with key staff in school. It will entail providing a range of services to children and families who need additional support.

Key Responsibilities, safeguarding:

 

To help students grow socially and academically. You will be required to help students cope with behaviour management, and mental and emotional health issues. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Counselling children
  • Managing case records and monitoring CPOMS
  • Reporting any child abuse or neglect to EHU or MASH
  • Educating and training parents on available resources to help their child
  • Attending educational planning meetings and establishing positive working relationships with all staff in and out of school
  • Advocating for students, families, and resources
  • Coordinate with social, government, health and education agencies and services to support our students
  • Supporting staff training alongside the Head Teacher.

     Linked responsibilities, attendance:

  • Coordinate with the school office to follow up absences and first day calling where there are attendance concerns
  • Fill out necessary paperwork and produce evidence for EHU
  • Home visits to families with particular attendance concerns
  • Meet with families in school who consistently have under 90% attendance
  • Update necessary paper work regarding attendance concerns to support any referral to the EHU to and substantiate evidence relating to court action.
  • Support the Office Manager sending letters to parents of students under 96% and 90% asking for medical evidence where applicable
  • Set up groups to target and monitor groups with attendance concerns

 

Linked Responsibilities, Pupil Premium:

 

  • To support the PP lead in the school’s approach to raising the achievement of disadvantaged students in receipt of pupil premium funding and others who are vulnerable, working alongside the Deputy Head Teacher.
  • To identify disadvantaged students’ barriers to learning in order to design, lead and deliver appropriate intervention strategies
  • Support the PP Lead to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of provision for pupil premium and vulnerable pupils and review the action plan as appropriate.
